Six verbs, not a trophy.
Bloom named six things you can ask a mind to do. Most software only asks the first.
Bloom's taxonomy gets treated like a poster.
Six boxes. A pyramid. A thing you put on a slide so the workshop feels serious.
Ignore the poster. Keep the verbs.
Remember. Understand. Apply. Analyze. Evaluate. Create.
That is the whole list. It is not a personality test. It is a menu of asks.
You can ask a person to bring a fact back. That is Remember.
You can ask them to say it without the textbook. That is Understand.
You can ask them to use it on a problem they have not seen. That is Apply.
You can ask them to take the thing apart. That is Analyze.
You can ask them to judge it. That is Evaluate.
You can ask them to make the next thing. That is Create.
School is good at the first one. Software is even better. Multiple choice is cheap. Spaced flashcards are cheap. A streak on Remember feels like a curriculum.
It is not.
A person who can only remember is stuck. They can pass a quiz. They cannot fly the pattern, write the proof, or read the page that was not in the deck.
The jump happens later.
Apply this word in a new sentence. Analyze why that proof failed. Evaluate which model to trust. Create a paragraph that was not in the prompt.
Difficulty lives inside each verb. Remember can be easy or brutal. Create can be a doodle or a career.
The verb and the size are two dials. Turn both.
We use the six verbs as a check. If a screen only asks you to remember, it has to justify itself.
Sometimes it can. A new alphabet has to be remembered before it can be used. Hangul first. Then a story.
Math is the same. You remember the move. Then you apply it when the numbers change.
Aviation is unforgiving about this.
Remember the memory items. Apply them when the light is wrong. Evaluate whether this is the checklist or a different emergency.
Nobody wants a pilot who only remembers.
The list is not the product. It is a way to refuse a shallow one.
If we only ship Remember, we shipped a toy. The rest of the verbs are the work.
